Many radios show it on screen when you hold two preset buttons (Ford: 1+6 or 2+6; Renault: 1+6). Others print it on a label on the radio casing. Pick your car brand for exact steps.

Usually not for Ford, Renault, Toyota and Jaguar. VW group, Fiat, Vauxhall CDR and older Philips units show the serial only on the casing label.

The registration tells us the car, not the radio — radios get swapped. We use your reg to show where the serial is, then the serial decides the code.

It is a timed lock after wrong tries. Leave the radio (and usually the ignition) on until it clears — often 1 hour. See our locked radio guide.

The battery was disconnected or went flat, or the radio was removed. It is an anti-theft feature.

Tell us from your order page. If the serial you gave us matches your radio and the code does not unlock it, we fix it or refund you in full.

Ford Z and A serials (2008 on), Renault MediaNav and R-Link, Nissan-built radios, and serials not in our database. The free check tells you before you pay.
